and so it starts...who i am isn't really important in order to make sense of this blog or the recipes found on it. but i will tell you this, i am a pastry chef-cia grad from way back. met my husband at the cia and we have been married for more than 25 years-we married young, honestly we really were too young to be married but did it anyway. we have 2 children and they are almost grown. it is true, for 8 years, i was a soccermom, but not your average soccermom since you would never have found me running up and down the sidelines screaming at the kid or the coach. i enjoyed sitting quietly with the other parents and watching the game-we just won't mention the cowbell...i have a collection of cameras and i love to take photos of everything but mostly of the garden. we have lots going on in the garden and a bunch of cats to keep it interesting. i try to keep the house clean but frequently lose the battle. in all, it makes me a jane of many trades and all of them are my master.
i have written two books on baking but you won't find me promoting them here-this is my alter ego in the form of a blog page and it just seems tacky to push the books here; a little like shameless self promotion when i would rather not stand out like a sore thumb. as i get older, i seem to be focusing on more of the things i never noticed before. working in the garden lets me escape the daily grind and i enjoy spending my time out there even if i am just pulling weeds.
as if a house full of kids, cats and a husband weren't enough, we now have bees. they are by far the most amazing creatures and i can't wait for our first honey flow. our hive filled up fast-we went from the 10,000 bees in our purchased 3# package in april to at least 40,000 by the end of the summer. and now we await the spring to see how our colony did over the winter.
in an effort to entertain myself, i have begun a new project on this blog. i am baking a new and original pie each week for 52 weeks. it is just my way of staying sane and au courant with the trends. it also keeps the husband happy since he likes pie. i would love some company so feel free to bake a pie using one of my recipes and then send me a photo, i will post it for all the world to drool over.
you will also find me among the other gardeners-the master gardeners. the husband and i decided to become certified master gardeners in an effort to both learn about gardening and to make some friends. it's funny, but when you have kids, sometimes, you forget that you have a life too. we figured since they were almost grown, we could look the other way for a bit and do something for ourselves. turns out, we enjoy working in the garden and have made some friends there. cats and bees aside, we almost have a life now. as a result, we can be found walking the dog through the woods or the neighborhood, whichever we have the time for.
and yes, i have my marbles; they are getting a work out as pie weights. so when i am not sifting flour, scouring thrift stores or playing in the dirt, i am here killing time in front of the mac and waiting with baited breath for my 7 minutes and 12 seconds of fame. i'm in no need of the whole 15 minutes-i'd probably just get myself in trouble anyway...
